Colors and fruits ESL/EFL game for kindergarten

This is another great ESL/EFL game for kindergarten you can play with very young learners using flashcards.

In order to play this game you need two sets of flashcards to teach vocabulary. I use “colors” and “fruits” but if you are a creative teacher then you can adapt the game for other categories of vocabulary. You also need to make sure they know the vocabulary so they can play the game.

Close front and close back vowels

There are two vowels that are commonly found in weak syllables. These two vowels are ‘i’ and ‘u’.
Very long time ago, when I had the first contact with English phonemic chart, I was taught about long vowels such as /i:/ and /u:/ (the colon symbol shows us that the vowel is a long one). It is not the case in our days since this classification is obsolete.

Chart of English consonant phonemes

I thought it is very useful to place all of the English consonant phonemes in a chart.

Different places of articulation are arranged from left to right and the manners of articulation are arranged from top to bottom. There are phonemes with the same place and manner of articulation but differing in whether they are voiceless or voiced. In this situation the symbol for the voiceless consonant is placed to the left of the symbol for the voiced consonant.
